South
Africa
This was an interesting task and one that carried considerable risk to the ROV. The scene was Mossel Bay South Africa, the company employing me Utec , and the rov a "Falcon". Beneath a "Calm Bouy" (an anchored small platform) risers from the sea bed enter the underside, the oil them leaves the bouy via a floating export line that the tanker picks up. One of the riser had been damaged which had to be pulled clear and then moved over the stern of a supply vessel for repairs. The problem for the rov pilot was that he had to station his vehicle very close to the ships thrusters in order to guide the damage riser onto the ramp.
